Description
The color of the currant varies from brownish to deep dark blue. The darker the color, the sweeter the currant. The currant looks a lot like a raisin and is often confused with one, but the raisin comes from other grape varieties with larger fruits. The currant is a dried, seedless grape of a grape variety that produces very small fruits, the Vitis vinifera ‘Korinthiaka’. The comparable sultana raisin is made from Vitis vinifera ‘Apyrena’. The name comes from the French word raisin de Corinthe, which in turn comes from the Greek city of Corinth. You use currants in all the ways you use raisins: just like that, in mueslis, pastries and desserts and in various savory & sweet dishes such as salads and stews.
