Description
Quinoa is a plant with red-orange plumes that originated in South America. The name ‘quinoa’ comes from Quechua, the original language of the Incas, and means ‘Mother Grain’ or ‘Super Grain’. The Incas cultivated quinoa 5,000 years ago at the extreme altitudes of the Andes. They prepared quinoa like rice and considered it their ‘sacred food’. Nowadays, quinoa is considered a ‘superfood’ because of its exceptionally high nutritional value. And we have come to the point where you can prepare quinoa in dozens, if not hundreds of ways. How about quinoa salad with pomegranate and fresh mint? Or quinoa ‘à la risotto’ with mushrooms and parsley? Check out our recipes for quinarian inspiration!
